Where is the Argus Apocraphex?
30 Seconds to Mars — Band Bio, Trouble Bunch Music (2003)

This biography taunts you with its nakedness and you grind your teeth together as it pleads with you to fill in the blanks. And what it feels like is not unlike before the moment a small child contorts his face and is about to scream for the candy at the register. And what it sounds like is the whizzing of air right before the strap hits your hand.

Why are you here? Are you listening? Can you hear what I am saying?

The tension rises in and behind your occipital lobes and the blood rushes to paint your cheeks. Red is the color, the headache is in the mail and the aspirin sits, loaded in your hand like a gun at your hip.

I can’t stand this.

Look at the red, red changes in the sky. You want to look away but you just can’t bring yourself to do it can you punk?

Why?

Because when it comes down to it, this gimme gimme society of ours is missing something magical isn’t it? Something so sexy and captivating that it doesn’t have to sport a Prada handbag to prove anything to anyone. It’s called mystery.

What’s with the fascination with the echelon?

This is a gift. This is the part of the bio where you get angry, claw at your screen and take matters into your own hands and this is the part where you shift uncomfortably in your Staples brand office chair because wouldn’t you know it, where it is worn out, is the exact spot where the padding doesn’t meet your spine.

Only $49.99 what a steal.

This is where you write the damn thing yourself. Where you open your handy dandy program and voraciously begin to change the entire she-bang, the whole enchilada. Bob Ezrin doesn’t have creative control, you do.

Hold the onions.

This feeling is not unlike a canis lupus tearing the meat clear off the bones of its prey. And it’s not unlike pouring the entire bottle of bleach in the load to get at the stains. It must fall apart before it can be fixed. You smash the letters into the keypad. You are livid and you smell of a sickly sweet combination of testosterone and sweat. This is a monstrosity; you pull at your hair.

What’s that word? Trick…trich-oh-till-o-mania something.

Your underwear are in a bunch, you missed the exit and there is no turning back now, so you delete this line.

And this one.
And this one.
And so on.
And so on.

The punctuation was all wrong anyway.

And so on.
Ad libitum.

You hear the voices in your head.

G’head, knock yourself out kid. Write the fucking biography.

Later you can print it, frame it and treasure it.

Yes!

More voices?

You wonder to yourself how long you have been hearing those voices but you let it go because the no vacancy sign is lit and because this, this will be an eternal keepsake of the special moment in time when you chose to swim against conformity. And this will be that moment when you chose to use something that very few people still know how to access.

It’s called imagination kids. Ain’t it grand?

Maybe our hero is a banana-skin-smoking park ranger, working at a naughty nudist colony in Uganda who periodically ships knock-off bottles of crystal for extra bling to MTV sets in the good old US of A for all the pretty, pretty, disillusioned people because “nice work if you can get it.” A ranger parading around in only a hat, who over the years has developed an unnatural fascination with bubble wrap and those little static electricity-charged Styrofoam S’s. Or maybe, just maybe, he used to model bikinis for some obscure, fetish driven, hairy-backed porn website and the real shocker is that you were in a couple of those glossies.

Say cheese.

You can go on kidding yourself but the truth of the matter is, Mom’s going to recognize you on the pop-up whilst surfing for online bargains any day now.

Oh the shame of it!

You breathe through your eyelids.

Get a grip on yourself man.

You align your yin with your yang and let your imagination soar—because when it comes down to it, the sky’s the limit baby. The sky’s the limit.

Juicy fruit is gonna move you. Chews so soft it gets right through you?

You take a good look around and smile to yourself with the sudden realization that all of this has the potential to be as freeing as Disney intended Willy to be. If only you’d allow yourself the luxury of savoring a moment, you could have a whale of a time.

Take a sniff. Pull it out. The taste is going to move you when you pop it in your mouth.

You don’t want to run. You don’t want to run.

The taste, the taste, the taste is gonna move you.

Dot. Dot. Dot.

It begins now. Write it.

You can finish the dishes after you finish up here. That’s the good news and the sauce they serve with it is called no one will hold any of this against you.

This is insanity.

Maybe so, but I’m not writing it, you are.

Thirty Seconds To Mars Announce New Album, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS
Mar 18 2013

The new album features 12 songs, and will be in stores on May 21.

Thirty Seconds To Mars are covering all the bases on their new album.
On Monday (March 18), they announced that the follow-up to their 2009 effort This Is War will be called LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS, an all-encompassing title that seems lend credence to what mastermind Jared Leto told MTV News earlier this month, when he described the new album as "provocative."
"This is a really important album for us. It's an evolution ... this album is more of who we are than we have ever been before," Leto said. "And we've gone to an entirely new place, which is incredibly exciting."
LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS will be released on May 21, and is produced by Leto, with Steve Lillywhite co-producing four of the twelve tracks. The album artwork is a work called "Isonicotinic Acid Ethyl Ester," from legendary British artist Damien Hirst, and a second piece of his art, from the "Colour Charts" series, will appear on the CD itself.
Monday is shaping up to be quite the day for Mars ... in addition to the new album announce, they're also premiering the first single off the disc, "Up In The Air" in a live chat with NASA. Earlier this month, they blasted the first copy of the song into orbit on board a SpaceX rocket. Oh, and they're one of the 64 bands competing in the fourth annual Musical March Madness tournament, which tipped off today.
The full track list for LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS, according to Thirty Seconds To Mars:
» "Birth"
»: "Conquistador"
» "Up In The Air"
» "City Of Angels"
» "The Race"
» "End Of All Days"
» "Pyres Of Varanasi"
» "Bright Lights"
» "Do Or Die"
» "Convergence"
» "Northern Lights"
» "Depuis Le Debut"

Thirty Seconds to Mars announces new album; sends single to International Space Station crew
March 18, 2013

Thirty Seconds to Mars debuts single in space

In this Sept. 12, 2012 photo, Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto poses for a portrait during the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

Rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars wanted the announcement for their latest studio album to be out of this world. And that's where the album's first single debuted.
"Up in the Air" was sent to the International Space Station for an exclusive listening Monday. It will be released Tuesday on Earth.
The new album, "Love Lust Faith + Dreams," will be available May 21.
A compact disc containing the song was launched on a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla., on March 1. The band got to watch the rocket blast into space.
"It was amazing to feel it take off," frontman Jared Leto said in a recent interview. "The noise and the brightness was overwhelming, and you're still a mile away."
Leto said the challenge of sending a song into space paled in comparison to being sued for $30 million by EMI when the band was working on "This Is War," released in 2009, which sold over 500,000 copies. The band also launched an aggressive world tour to promote the CD.
"The last album was about closure. There was a battle and a war that we fought. This one is a new beginning," the 41-year-old singer-actor said.
The new single "has to do with getting to a point in your life where you're ready to let go of the past, embrace change and become more of who you really are," Leto said.
The lawsuit was eventually resolved, and the band has continued working with EMI. Leto said the out-of-this-world debut for the new album was fitting after the enormous weight of the lawsuit was lifted, although sending a CD into space was no easy task.
"Most worthy things are not easy to get done. I think a lot of great things have a tremendous amount of challenge, a tremendous amount of difficulty, and I think this was one of those things," he said.
Leto said he wrote and recorded more than 70 songs before determining the final 12 for the new album.
"My songs must feel like discarded lovers because I'm continuously abandoning time," he said. "But that feels better than being sued."
EMI sued the band in 2008 for breach of contract.
"That $30 million lawsuit in that battle was very real. It wasn't a headline. It was something we thought about every single moment of the day that was there, weighing on us. And not just the fact that we would lose and owe a corporation $30 million, but we would have our creative lives stamped out," Leto said.
Their documentary, "Artifact," chronicles the production of the band's third album.
"The film is highly critical of the record business, but I'm not anti-record label, at all. I'm anti-greed. I'm anti-corruption," Leto said. "I'm pro-artist. I believe that everybody can win. You don't have to steal from one another to do it, or to treat one another unfairly."
"Artifact" won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and was recently shown at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
While things are back to normal, Leto feels the "cuts are still fresh."
"I think they're healing. But they're definitely not healed yet. It takes some time. The good news is that there's an entirely new group that's running things. It's essentially a new record company," Leto said.
The band, which also includes Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicivic, will begin a world tour in June to support the new album.
Meanwhile, Leto will return to the big screen this year, starring opposite Matthew McConaughey in the AIDS drama, "Dallas Buyers Club."
"I hadn't made a film for five years, and this role came along to play a transsexual in a film about the birth of this horrible plague. I wasn't looking to make a film, or to take five years off, either," Leto said.
A conversation between astronaut Tom Marshburn from the International Space Station and Leto will be available on both the band's and NASA's websites.
