Jared Leto reveals album ‘transformation’

Jared Leto says his band’s new album is a “complete transformation” for them.

The actor is frontman of American rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, which also consists of Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević.

The group have recorded new music in Asia, Europe and America for the album which is due for release next year.

"It's stronger, better and more evolved. It's a complete transformation for us,” Jared revealed to the BBC.

“[We have] cut out a lot of fat and focused on the core of what we do.”

Prior to the recording of their fourth musical offering, there had been rumours 30 Seconds to Mars would split.

Their last album This Is War came out in 2009 and Jared says the temporary break was good for the band.

"People started to ask us about a new album. We had been on the road for almost two and a half years and I didn't know. I had no idea what the future held. I don't think any of us knew. We told the truth,” he confessed.

"There were a lot of questions we had. There was a certain amount of fragility when we thought about what we were doing with our lives at that moment. It wasn't a bad thing. It's good to question and debate with yourself."

The 40-year-old artist says he and the group are now back and better than ever.

"I really think that this could be the best thing that we've ever done,” he added.

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto has revealed that his band will release their fourth album next year.

Leto says that the LP will be "stronger, better and more evolved." He also told BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe that the record will be "a complete transformation for us" and added: "I really think that this could be the best thing that we've ever done."

The follow-up to 2009's 'This Is War' has been recorded across the world, with sessions taking place in Asia, Europe and America.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that 30 Seconds To Mars will be playing next summer's Download Festival, alongsideQueens Of The Stone Age, Alice In Chains and Motorhead.

Last year it was rumoured that the rockers would be splitting and Leto admitted to Lowe that the band too were uncertain about their future. 

He said: "People started to ask us about a new album. We had been on the road for almost two and a half years and I didn't know... I had no idea what the future held. I don't think any of us knew."

Meanwhile, Leto has signed up for his first movie role in three years. He has joined the cast of The Dallas Buyer's Club alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. 

The film is inspired by the real-life story of Rod Woodroof, a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS who began smuggling alternative drugs into America to help himself and other AIDS patients.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto will appear as a "flamboyant cross-dresser with HIV who helps Woodroof".

AFM 2012: The Works Picks Up 30 Seconds to Mars' Doc 'Artifact'

The British outfit will handle worldwide sales on Jared Leto's music industry expose, which won the People's Choice Award in Toronto.

SANTA MONICA -- The Works International has picked up worldwide sales for the 30 Seconds to Mars documentary Artifact, directed by the band's frontman, actor Jared Leto (aka Bartholomew Cubbins).

The doc premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it won the People's Choice Award in the documentary category. The Works is kicking off international sales of the film at AFM.

Artifact, billed as a Super Size Me of the music industry, focuses on Leto and 30 Seconds to Mars back in 2008, when their recording label, Virgin/EMI, sued them for $30 million for trying to exercise their legal right to get out of their contract. The film chronicles the ensuing legal battle as well as the band's attempt -- at the same time -- to record their third album, appropriately titled This is War.

‘We are thrilled to be representing Artifact," said Clare Crean of The Works International. "The film is a true expose of the music industry and highlights the rollercoaster ride 30 Seconds to Mars have taken, from being sued for $30 million by their own record company to becoming one of the biggest bands of this generation."

Leto, known for his acting roles in Requiem for a Dream (2000) and Mr. Nobody (2009), also produced Artifact together with Emma Ludbrook.

30 Seconds to Mars: "The Experience"

On April 27, the post-grunge band 30 Seconds to Mars offered its fans an exclusive live session in the studio: the VyRT (which they described as being "A Unique Virtual Social Experience"). Appointment during which they have launched an information that has exalted a lot of people in the world of "Echelon": the band will release indeed a fourth album.

30 Seconds to Mars Fans enjoy VyRT Experience

On Friday 27 April, at 11pm UK time, alternative electronic rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, walked where no man (or band) has walked before on the Virtual networking scene.

Fans all over the world were treated to a unique Virtual Social Experience with the band, streamed live from the studio where the magic happens, also known as “The Hive”.

Jared, Shannon and Tomo treated fans to tasters of new material off the forthcoming album, special acoustic performances of their most famous tracks including Kings and Queens, Hurricane and Closer to The Edge, and even a cookery lesson in vegan pancakes.

Jared and the editing team showed the cameras exclusive clips on their live tour film, and Artifact, a production outlining the battle many artists have today with record labels.

After a shaky start, the VyRT was soon well under way, with Jared and co. corresponding with fans via Twitter and the official chat rooms. A very exciting experience indeed.

As the event drew to a close, two fans, who had won the opportunity to be at The Hive during the filming of the VyRT, various different fan questions were answered, giving an insight to the history of Mars, and any exciting plans in the pipeline.

Unfortunately, as I am in promise with the band and the fellow Echelon family members (those of you who are a fan will understand), I cannot disclose any more information.

Even though we were all hanging on until about 4.30am, the VyRT was definitely something I would do again.

Truly a remarkable band.

30 Seconds to Mars' as yet untitled fourth album is inspired by singer Jared Leto's recent trip to India.

Frontman Jared Leto has recently been to the Asian country and was inspired by what he saw there to write new songs.

He told MTV: ''I was recording in India, and had an amazing experience over there, and came back with some really great material.

''And not so much that this is a World Beat record, it's more about the experiences and how they're influencing me in creative terms, emotional terms.''

Jared also told how one impromptu recording session saw him joined by a gang of local children.

He added: ''There was one afternoon that we climbed up above a city called Jodhpur, we were on a cliff with a 2000-year-old fortress behind us.

''So it was about sunset, and I had a portable set up, so we started recording. I had an external speaker, and the kids started to hear this song I was working on.

''So they started climbing out onto the rooftops of the city, and soon they were scrambling up the side of this mountain, and before we knew it, we were surrounded by dozens of these amazing Indian kids, singing and dancing along to this recording process.

''It was really mind-blowing.'

Thirty Seconds To Mars Unveils Plans For New Album, Webcasts Performance

It’s no secret that Thirty Seconds To Mars are working on a new album. What wasn’t known is that the album is said to be more produced than This Is War.  Frontman Jared Leto described it as “very orchestral, narrative, interactive and even more electronic than previous projects.”

Leto is once again at the helm along with iconic producers such as Steve Lillywhite, widely known for his work with U2 and The Killers.

The band has set up what they call ICAASS (International Center for the Advancement of the Arts and Sciences of Sound), atop the Hollywood Hills. In addition to their studio or “Lab” as they call it, the band is incorporating recordings made at remote locations like India, Africa, Yosemite, the California desert and Europe.

In order to get fans fired up about the new album, the band will invite people for a sneak peak into their studio, April 27th for a live webcast. The digital presentation will include a live performance, preview of their live tour film, sneak peek of their documentary film ARTIFACT, and a discussion with the band.

The band plans to re-launch their successful event titled The Summit and plans to launch The Summit 2.0 as an app, allowing fans to be a part of the live recording for the album through Facebook, Twitter and a new technology platform called VyRT. Digital tickets are available for $9.99 until Wednesday, April 25th at VyRT.net/Mars.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Leto explained VyRT. “What we do is, we sell individual digital tickets to live events and broadcast them online in a social theater,” Leto explains. “I really started it because there was a very special show that we had towards the end of our two-and-a-half year tour. We wanted to broadcast the show in a really high-quality social way, but when we started to look around, there wasn’t really a company out there that we could use to share this event. So I started the company.”

Yep, they are coming back with a new'un. And you can get involved...

Having broken the Guiness World Record for the longest touring stint supporting a single album back in December (that's 300 shows off the back of '09's 'This Is War' if you'd forgotten),30 Seconds To Mars have confirmed they ARE working towards a fourth full-length album. Now pay attention, because there's a lot to take in...

There are a few things you need to know:

1) Frontman Jared Leto has described the forthcoming record as "a dramatic departure from the past" and expects it to be "very orchestral, narrative, interactive and even more electronic than previous projects." Not underplaying this one much then. 

2) Leto is producing the record alongside Steve Lillywhite (U2, The Killers) and various other producers The band are currently working out of The Lab in Hollwood, but will also be recording various bits and bobs live from around the world - in India, Africa, Yosemite, the Californian desert and Europe. 

3) The band are relauncing The Summit 2.0 as a Facebook and Twitter app, that will offer an insight into the inner workings of the album's creation.

Last we heard from 30 Seconds to Mars, the band was battling rumors about a potential break while celebrating a record-setting
 December live show in New York.

But after a few months of radio silence, not only are 30STM not taking time off, they're forging ahead with their fourth album. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, singer Jared Leto said the group's "excitedly working in the studio." The singer revealed that he's written 50 songs and is finalizing a list of producers for the as-yet-untitled effort, including M83's Morgan Kibby.

"She came by and was playing some synths and doing some programming," Leto said of a recent visit from the French electronica group's keyboard player. "She's a real talent. We're working with some interesting people." Leto is once again producing, though in addition to potentially working with Kibby the band is reuniting with legendary producer Steve Lillywhite.

No street date has been set for the follow-up to 2009's This Is War, but in a release announcing the new album Leto promised that the sound would be a "dramatic departure from the past ... very orchestral, narrative, interactive and even more electronic than previous projects." The trio are laying down the tracks in their Los Angeles studio, named "ICAASS," for International Center for the Advancement of the Arts and Sciences of Sound, while also incorporating "site specific recordings" in such varied locations as India, Africa, Yosemite, the California desert and Europe.

After teaming with Kanye West for the War track "Hurricane," Leto told RS that he'd love to work with Eminem this time around, as well as Bjö, the Cure's Robert Smith and Sigur Rós.

Following their record-setting string of 309 shows on the War tour, the group will not play any gigs in 2012, but will broadcast a live performance from their studio on April 27th via Leto's new website, VyRT.net. The gig will feature old favorites, previews of new material, a sneak peek at their new documentary, "ARTIFACT," acoustic jams and some fan Q&A. Digital "tickets" for the show are available on the vyRT site.

Singer also speaks about the band's progress in recording their fourth studio album

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto has said that he and his bandmates would love to collaborate with Eminem on a future release. 

The stadium rockers, who previously worked with Kanye West on their single 'Hurricane', are currently working on their fourth studio album and Leto has said that he would love a collaboration with Eminem to be part of that. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Leto responded to a question about who he would like to work with by saying: "I'd love to do something with Eminem. That would be pretty mindblowing." He also said that he would love to collaborate with Bjork, The Cure's Robert Smith and Sigur Ros. 

Leto also gave an update on the band's progress in recording their fourth album, adding: "We are excitedly working in the studio. I have been working quietly and without much fanfare, but I've been writing and recording constantly, really crafting the future sound of 30 Seconds To Mars."

As part of that, Leto revealed that the band have been working with M83's Morgan Kibby on the record, with Leto saying of this: "She came by and was playing some synths and doing some programming. She's a real talent. We're working with some interesting people."

Leto also confirmed that the band would not be touring for the entirety of 2012, having completed a grueling 311-date tour in support of their third album 'This Is War'.
