Co-star Jared Leto is also wasting away for his role in the film -- and today he and photographerTerry Richardson shared some scary, shirtless photos of his shrinking physique.
The actor, who also waxed his eyebrows, revealed he's fasting to play a transsexual and toldVulture he hasn't eaten in almost a month.
"Your body goes through weird stages," he says of the weight loss. "Sometimes it's hard to hold on to water. But for me, it's not about the most weight I can lose, it's more to represent the character."

"Historically, people have done it for pursuit of self, to achieve a meditative state, so I'm hoping for that," he added. "It's not necessarily a bad thing."
No word on how much he's lost, but McConaughey reportedly dropped 30lbs to play an HIV-positive patient in the same movie.

Jared Leto hit the red carpet at the euphoria Calvin Klein presents the IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards last night in NYC with a completely bare brow.
Leto picked up the Gotham Independent Film Audience Award for his documentary film"Artifact" at the ceremony, but it's his shocking appearance that still has people talking.
If you haven't been following the former "My So-Called Life" star's latest projects, Leto waxed off the hair above his eyes for his new role as a transsexual in the upcoming flick "The Dallas Buyer's Club."
The role also explains Leto's recent weight loss.
"I’m kind of lightheaded because I’ve been fasting for a role," he told EW on the red carpet. "I have no eyebrows too. [Waxing] was quite an adventure."
