The band are going to placing the track aboard a SpaceX rocket that will blast off from Cape Canaveral, Florida and dock with the International Space Station.

The launch is scheduled for 10:10 a.m. ET and fans can watch it live via NASA's official site.

On March 18th, the band will then visit NASA's mission control complex in Houston, where they'll conduct a live Q&A with Tom Marshburn, one of the astronauts aboard the International Space Station, and premiere the single for the first time.

30 SECONDS TO MARS TO LAUNCH ‘UP IN THE AIR’ SINGLE INTO OUTER SPACE
February 28, 2013

It may not quite reach the red planet, but 30 Seconds to Mars are about to make their debut in the realm of outer space. The band’s new single ‘Up in the Air’ will actually be launched into orbit on Friday (March 1) to eventually reach its destination of the International Space Station.
‘Up in the Air’ is the first single from 30 Seconds to Mars’ as-yet-untitled fourth album, which will see a 2013 release. The band has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of what an act is capable of, setting a Guinness World Record for Most Shows Played During a Single Album Cycle, racking up a total of 311 shows in nearly 60 countries on six continents over a period of two years while supporting their 2009 full-length, ‘This Is War.’
As if the band’s previous accomplishments weren’t epic enough, including over 5 million albums sold worldwide, this next astronomical event will take place on March 1 at 10:10 AM ET as ‘Up in the Air’ is rocketed into outer space. The very first copy of ‘Up in the Air’ will be part of a SpaceX cargo mission carrying over 1,200 pounds of scientific equipment and another miscellaneous gear needed to aid astronauts within the International Space Station.
Fans will be able to watch the launch live thanks to NASA, who also offer full details and updates on the mission via their official website. 30 Seconds to Mars will also meet with Tom Marshburn, one of the astronauts currently aboard the space station, on March 18. The chat will also be broadcast online, with specific details soon to be announced on 30 Seconds to Mars’ website.
‘Up in the Air’ will make its Planet Earth debut on March 19.

Thirty Seconds To Mars, 'Up In The Air' To Be Sent Into Space By NASA

Thirty Second to Mars' "Up in the Air" will be launched into space. Okay, then!

Thirty Seconds to Mars (previously stylized as 30 Seconds to Mars), Jared Leto's rock band, is sending its new song into space.
NASA and SpaceX will launch "Up in the Air," the new song, from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It will travel aboard a Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon cargo capsule and land at the International Space Station, where it will be greeted by astronaut Tom Marshburn.
The launch is scheduled for a 10:10 a.m. liftoff and can be watched live at NASA's live-stream website. In case you're wondering if sending a song is an efficient use of a rocket heading to space, fear not: The Dragon capsule will be loaded with over 1,200 pounds of scientific paraphernalia.
Marshburn and the band will do a live Q&A on March 18, the day of the song's worldwide premiere. Fans can view the conversation at the band's website.
The extensive effort marks the beginning of Thirty Seconds to Mars' promotional activity for their fourth studio album, due out later in 2013. Leto and his fellow bandmates toured their previous album, "This Is War," for two years, setting a Guiness World Record for the number of shows played in support of a single album (311-plus shows in 60 countries on six continents).
"Up in the Air" isn't the first piece of music to make its way beyond Earth's atmosphere. NASA launched the Voyager Golden Record in 1977 aboard both Voyager spacecrafts, which have since exited the solar system. They continue to venture into space and contain a number of international, mostly classical music selections. The time-capsules of sorts also include playback instructions for any extraterrestrials who may happen upon them.
In 2008, NASA beamed the Beatles' "Across the Universe" directly into deep space. Yoko Ono responded with delight at the time, saying the development marked "the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe."

Jared Leto Debuts Orbis Epsilon Back Tattoo!
Posted

BIG NEWS: after teasing us on Twitter practically nonstop over the past 24 hours, Jared Leto has revealed his brand new back tattoo! The actor and 30 Seconds to Mars frontman made a deal with his followers yesterday, saying that he would unveil his latest ink once he reached 1 million, and well, it happened. Mere minutes ago. That was quick! (Um, NOT that we were refreshing our Jared Leto Twitter tab, or anything...). He posted the photo of himself facing backwards against a stark blue background this morning, saying "I made you a promise when I hit one million followers. Thank you all! xo" No Jared, thank YOU.
The tat depicts the Orbis Epsilon, otherwise known as a circle divided into two equal parts with four arrows shooting out. And as any member of the 30STM Echelon will tell you, the symbol has been a huge part of the band's merch, philosophy, and even Jared himself. Remember that Orbis Epsilon necklace he rocked back in December? The dude clearly looooves symmetry— he's no stranger to using arrows and triangles in album artwork likeThis Is War— so his new emblem ink makes TOTAL SENSE.
Are you into Jared's new tattoo? Let us know!

Thirty Seconds to Mars Launching New Single Into Space
FEBRUARY 28, 2013

'Up in the Air' will head to the International Space Station

Thirty Seconds to Mars will blast their new single "Up in the Air" literally into the air tomorrow, when the first copy is included on a SpaceX cargo mission delivering scientific experiments and goods to the International Space Station.
Frontman Jared Leto and his bandmates will head to Cape Canaveral in Florida to watch the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket, which will also be shown on NASA's website.
The band will also visit Mission Control in Houston on March 18th to chat with space station astronaut Tom Marshburn. The interview will be broadcast live, with more details available soon on the band's website.
"Up in the Air" will see full release on March 19th. The song marks the first single from Thirty Seconds to Mars' as-yet-untitled fourth LP, which is set for release later this year. The band took a break from the road last year to begin working on the follow-up to 2009's This Is War amid break-up rumors that Leto squelched in an interview with Rolling Stone at the time: "We are excitedly working in the studio," he said. "I have been working quietly and without much fanfare, but I've been writing and recording constantly, really crafting the future sound of Thirty Seconds to Mars."

Jared Leto reveals album ‘transformation’

Jared Leto says his band’s new album is a “complete transformation” for them.
The actor is frontman of American rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, which also consists of Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević.
The group have recorded new music in Asia, Europe and America for the album which is due for release next year.
"It's stronger, better and more evolved. It's a complete transformation for us,” Jared revealed to the BBC.
“[We have] cut out a lot of fat and focused on the core of what we do.”
Prior to the recording of their fourth musical offering, there had been rumours 30 Seconds to Mars would split.
Their last album This Is War came out in 2009 and Jared says the temporary break was good for the band.
"People started to ask us about a new album. We had been on the road for almost two and a half years and I didn't know. I had no idea what the future held. I don't think any of us knew. We told the truth,” he confessed.
"There were a lot of questions we had. There was a certain amount of fragility when we thought about what we were doing with our lives at that moment. It wasn't a bad thing. It's good to question and debate with yourself."
The 40-year-old artist says he and the group are now back and better than ever.
"I really think that this could be the best thing that we've ever done,” he added.

Thilo Frank’s Mirrored Room
March 7th, 2013

Measuring just 4 x 4 x 8 meters this small, windowless room might normally be considered a claustrophobic nightmare if it were’t lined from floor to ceiling with dozens of mirrors creating a reflective universe that seems to stretch into infinity. Titled “The Phoenix is closer than it appears,” the room was constructed by artist Thilo Frank at the Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg, Denmark. The Matrix-like space also features a swing that allows visitors an opportunity to view hundreds of cloned reflections swinging at all possible angles. I can think of quite a few illicit substances that should probably not be consumed before entering this room.
